Learn To Run Madden 11 Tournaments

Madden NFL is a very popular outfit in the gaming arena. Every time a new version is announced, its thousands of fans wait with bated breath for its release. Its popularity is unmatched, be it in the Xbox, Playstation, Nintendo or PC mediums. Madden 11 tournaments are held every year amid enthusiastic participation from fans all over. To host one of them, these are the things you have to consider.

Few events offer prizes and rewards to the winner but others are just played for the glory. To host an event for friends, you should probably decide if there is going to be a reward and hence, a participating fee. The events hosted on television offer lump sums of cash as rewards. Only the best players take part in these. For your game to be credible, as a moderator, it is your duty to ensure fairness. Although there are not a bunch of rules that the gamers have to be abide by, some common courtesies are followed and these are like the fundamental rules. Most of the events have these with minor variations. As a moderator, ensure a fair game and treat all players equally. The host must provide the controller and console. The players are not allowed to bring hardware and this is to avoid any cases of tampering. If any evidence of tampering is brought to the host's notice, it has to be dealt with severely. It is likely that the player will get booted. All players must have similar controllers and consoles to ensure that they all start off on even footing. Referees have present in these competitions to ensure fairness and to supervise game play. They have a variety of roles. They oversee the play and also the conduct of the players. They also need to oversee player dress code. They can rule on what is the appropriate time to pause game play. Referees also should be well versed in technical details so that they can recognise any cheating attempt by the players. Especially, if the players try to take advantage of any bugs in the game. Like any other game, there are chances of technical glitches being present and the referees have to be familiar with these to ensure no player utilizes them to his advantage. Any usage of vulgar language is generally frowned upon and also abusing the referee, verbally or physically, can land the player an instant disqualification. When play is on, no interaction with the spectators is allowed. Using a headset, damaging equipment, physical abuse of referee all can land the player penalties. In extreme cases, the player can be booted. You must clearly get the rules across to the players, including the punishment for not sticking to them.

No game 'fixing' is tolerated and any attempts to do so will get the player booted. Madden 11 tournaments rules vary according to the type of event. A live game will have slightly different rules from an online one. You may also have to stipulate the duration of game play, the speed of game and the difficulty settings.

The Madden Cover Athlete's Curse

Perhaps the most highly anticipated video game every year is the Madden NFL series from EA Sports. This renowned franchise has been a phenomenon for the past 21 years. The team behind Madden even attends the NFL Draft every year in order to get headshots of rookies in their NFL uniforms as early as humanly possible. The competetive side of the phenomenon has grown too, and now hundreds of pro Madden players make tons of money playing in tournaments. You may have also heard the term "Madden Holiday"...and it just goes to show how incredibly popular it has become.

You might also think that players are honored and delighted to be featured on the game's cover. In 1999, John Madden relinquished the cover of each game to a player...and since then, those players have ahd notortiously rough years.

Last year was no exception to the Madden curse, and it made it's mark in the very first week of the regular season. In 2009, there were two players on the cover for the first time in the franchise's history. Both teams from SB 43 are acknowledged, with Troy Polomalu of the Steelers and Larry Fitzgerald of the Arizona Cardinals. Troy Polomalu was injured in the Steelers' very first regular season game against the Titans. Without their defensive captain, the Steelers struggled, ceding the AFC North division title to the Bengals.

You'd think that players and coaches would have learned about the Madden curse by now. Players a) don't need the money and b) are quite superstitious in the best of times, so you'd think they'd just decline the offer from EA sports. Histroy has taught us that the negative effect of being on the Madden cover, for whatever scientific or non-scientific reason, is a real thing.

The History of the Madden Curse:

2002: Second-year quarterback Daunte Culpepper graced the cover for 2002, but was only able to follow-up an NFC Championship appearance the previous year by missing the final five games of the 2001 season with a knee injury as the Vikings missed the playoffs with a 5-11 record.

2003: Marking the beginning of the end of the "Greatest Show On Turf", Marshall Faulk of the Rams failed to rush for 1,000 yards in the 2001 season (for the first time since 1996) following his appearance on the cover of Madden 03 and his subsequent nagging ankle injury.

2004: Atlanta Falcons quarterback and franchise cornerstone Michael Vick was selected for the 2004 installment of Madden NFL, but missed the entire season after suffering a fractured right fibula in a preseason game and watched his team finish with a 5-11 record.

2006: Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb was coming off a Super Bowl appearance, in which his team lost to the New England Patriots. But as the Madden NFL 06 cover athlete, his 2005 was destined for disaster and he suffered a sports hernia in the first game and ended up shutting down for the last seven games of the season.

That evidence is hard to refute. So, how will Drew Brees fare against the msyterious and enignmatic "Madden Curse?"
